Plano PD Officer Shot While Responding to Welfare Concern

On December 10th, 2020, Plano Police Officers were dispatched to a Welfare Concern in the 6400 block of Ohio Drive. As one of the first responding Officers arrived, he was met with gunfire while still inside his vehicle. That Officer received gunshot wounds and was treated at a local hospital. The Officer is expected to make a full recovery from his injuries.

The Emergency Services Unit responded as the armed suspect was still inside his apartment and ignoring requests to come out by Plano Police Crisis Negotiators. After several hours, the suspect then exited his apartment holding a firearm and shot himself. The suspect did not survive the injuries caused by the self-inflicted wound. No shots were fired by Plano Officers during this event.
The suspect has been identified as a 60-year old resident of Plano. His name is being withheld at this time pending next of kin notification.
This investigation remains ongoing.
