Royse City Independent School District has announced that Mrs. Kara Onken has been selected as the new principal for Ruth Cherry Intermediate School beginning in the 2019-2020 school year. Mrs. Onken joins RCISD from Garland ISD where she also served as a campus principal.
Mrs. Onken holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree from Stephen F. Austin State University as well a masters in Educational Leadership. Prior to her administrative roles, she taught Kindergarten and 4th grades.
“We are proud to welcome Mrs. Onken to the Royse City ISD family,” said Superintendent Kevin Worthy. “She rose to the top of our candidate list quickly with her academic and relationship focused vision for Cherry Intermediate School. She will no doubt continue to grow upon the amazing things put into place at this very special campus.”
Mrs. Onken will transition to this new role over the summer and replaces Richard Pense who has been hired to lead Bobby Summers Middle School which is set to open August 2020. At that same time, Ruth Cherry and Herndon Intermediate Schools will transition to elementary campuses serving students in grades PreK to 5.
