Melvin J. Joslin, age 87 of Royse City, TX, passed away February 3, 2019. He was born April 12, 1931 in Hopkins County, TX, to Melvin Cecil Joslin and Martha Lucille (Lewis) Joslin. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army and he was a member of Community Baptist Church, where he served in various ministries as a deacon.
Melvin was a loving husband, father and “Papa” who never met a stranger. He was always willing to help others and especially loved volunteering for Meals on Wheels. Melvin loved to study and teach scripture and was active in the Good News Club at Miss May Vernon Elementary School. In his spare time, he enjoyed jogging to stay fit. Those who knew him will miss his sweet spirit.
Melvin is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years: Melba Joslin; son: Leslie Joslin and wife Amy; daughter: Michelle Burnett and husband Greg; grandchildren: Josh Joslin, Brandon Joslin, Ashley Burnett and Drew Burnett; stepgrandchildren: Marlaina Joslin and Ethan Straley; great grandchildren: Alexys, Hudson, Asa, Marion; brothers: Jerry Joslin and Larry Joslin; and sisters: Mary Oliphant and Kathy Renneker. He was preceded in death by his parents; Melvin and Lucille Joslin; and one son: Howard Joslin.
Funeral services will be held 2:00pm Thursday, February 7, 2019, at Community Baptist Church, 6012 State Highway 276, Royse City, TX, with Pastor Les Joslin officiating. Interment will follow in Royse City Cemetery. A gathering of family and friends will be held Wednesday evening at The Gathering at Rest Haven Funeral Home-Rockwall Location from 6:00 to 8:00pm. Memorial contributions in Melvin’s name may be made to the charity of donor’s choice.
