Sondra Marie Black, age 43 of Garland, TX, passed away January 29, 2019, after a long battle with cancer. She was born September 2, 1975, in Shreveport, LA, to James M. and Kay M. (Lilley) Bowden. Sondra grew up with a Presbyterian foundation and worked in the medical profession as a certified nurse’s aide. She is remembered as loving and caring, devoted to her family and friends. She will be dearly missed by all whose lives she touched.
Sondra is survived by her husband: Leon Black and son: Sean James Black of Garland, TX; parents: Jim Bowden and wife Nina of Rowlett, TX; aunt-in-law: Becky Flentge and husband Charles Ray of Dimebox, TX; father-in-law: Duke Black of Garland, TX; brothers: James (Jimmy) Bowden and wife Keri of San Antonio, TX, Steve Canerday and wife Mary of Woodworth, LA, and Scott Canerday and wife DeEtte of Winnfield, LA; sister: Lisa Canerday McCarter of Rowlett, TX; nieces and nephews: Madeleine Faith McCarter and Macey, Kaylie, Emily and Chris Canerday; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her mother Kay Marie Lilley Bowden.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Friday, February 1, 2019, at First Baptist Church Rowlett with Pastor Walter Guillaume, Dr. Cole Hedgecock, and Youth Pastor Hunter Smith officiating.
