Rockwall Police Department Warns Residents About Gift Card Scam

From Rockwall Police Department:

We have a report that Rockwall residents are being called by a man stating he is from the Social Security Office. The caller will state that the victim has activity on his social security account from drug trafficking and money laundering and that he was facing federal charges for them. He will then transfer his call to the “DEA” and have you speak to an “agent”. While talking to the “DEA” agent, the victim will be told in order clear his pending charges he will have to pay the current fines in gift cards.

These scammers do their research and will know to use real officer’s names.
Law Enforcement Agencies will NOT call you trying to get you to place money onto a gift card to clear warrants or charges. Gift cards are for gifts and are never used as payment for anything.
If you have been a victim of this scam then please contact 972-771-7724 to speak to an officer.
